Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 - hamburger buns, toasted and buttered
  • 4 slices red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices tomato

How To Make spiced hamburgers

  • Step 1
    Combine oil and onion in a small skillet over medium heat and cook, stirring, about 4 minutes, or until onions soften.
  • Step 2
    Add garlic, pepper, red pepper and continue to cook another minute.
  • Step 3
    Scrape the onion mixture into a mixing bowl, add the beef and mix well.
  • Step 4
    Form 4 patties, place on a plate, cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Place a large, heavy skillet on the stove over high heat.
  • Step 6
    When it is nearly smoking, add the hamburger patties.
  • Step 7
    Cook 2 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Turn the patties and cook on the other side until desired doneness, about 1 minute for very rare, 4 minutes for medium-well.
  • Step 9
    Arrange burgers on hamburger buns and garnish each with a slice of onion and tomato.
  • Step 10
    Offer ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise.
