Ingredients
- 2 pounds boneless chuck roast, cut into 1 1/2-in. cubes

- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 2 small bay leaves
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 6 - carrots, quartered
- 8 small onions
- 3 - potatoes, quartered
How To Make southern-style brown stew

Step 1Dip beef into flour. Brown an all sides in shortening in skillet. Add 4 cups boiling water and next 6 ingredients. Simmer for 2 hours, stirring frequently.

Step 2Add vegetables. Cook for 30 minutes longer or until vegetables are tender. Thicken stew with flour if desired.
