My mom told me about this recipe when I got married. It's still one of the easiest dishes I make and it is perfect everytime. Add a jar of mushrooms (or fresh if you have them on hand) for a variation. You can also make this recipe with chicken and white wine. I have even gone as far as to make this with frozen chicken breasts and it worked just fine. For the chicken version, add capers for a variation.

Ingredients

  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 8 ounces dry red wine
  • 4 - steaks (cut of your choice)
  • - salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced

How To Make slow cooked steak with red wine gravy

  • Step 1
In a bowl, mix soup & wine together. It will make a lumpy purple looking mess. That's exactly what you want.
  • Step 2
Add minced garlic. I use the precut garlic that you can get in your produce section.
  • Step 3
Layer your steaks in the bottom of your slow cooker. Pour the soup/wine mixture over the top.
  • Step 4
Cook on low for 8 hours. When you stir the mixture, the steaks will break apart in the gravy. Serve with mashed potatoes (I use the steam and mash from the freezer section) and a veggie side.
