When we would have family or friends coming from out of town I liked to make Sloppy Joes. They were easy to make and warm up whenever the company would arrive.
In those days, canned sauces were too expensive, so I came up with a sauce similar to Manwich. I know it is better now, because I know what is actually in the sauce.
I serve my Sloppy Joes with cold slaw and potato chips.
kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
How To Make sloppy joes
Brown ground beef, bell pepper and onion until vegetables are tender and the meat is cooked through. Break up meat with a fork as it is browning.
Add tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, chili powder, garlic powder and salt and pepper to taste.
Simmer to desired thickness. Serve either open or closed on a hamburger or Kaiser roll.
