How to Make Sloppy Joes
- Brown ground beef, onion powder and pepper in large skillet. Stir in flour. Slowly add water - add very slowly at first as it can and may sizzle up. Add Worcestershire, ketchup & chili powder. Simmer, uncovered for about 20 minutes (to desired thickness), stirring occasionally. A splatter shield is recommended.
Split and toast buns. Spoon mixture over toasted buns.
- VARIATIONS: I have also made pocket sandwiches in these using plain bread or flattened out biscuit dough or crescent dough in a sandwich press - do you all remember those?
My youngest's favorite it to dip Frito chips into the sloppy joe mix. He tells me it's too sloppy as a sandwich. :)
- NOTE: Don't feel like a messy/yummy sandwich? This goes great on the plate side by side with Jackie's Mom's Macaroni & Cheese. :)
