The marinade really adds a great flavor to this grilled meat. Serve with your favorite vegetables, rice and/or kimchi.

  • 2 lb
    short ribs (bone-in or boneless)
  • 1/2 c
    onion, chopped
  • 2 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp
    fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 c
    pear peeled and chopped (asian or bosc)
  • 2
    green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 c
    soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 Tbsp
    toasted sesame oil
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    fresh ground black pepper

How to Make Short Ribs with Marinade


  1. Add onion, garlic and ginger to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Add the pear and pulse again until the mixture forms a puree.
  2. Place the mixture in a bowl and add the scallions, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Pierce the meat with a fork or make small slits in the meat with a sharp knife to help the marinade penetrate the meat. Pour the marinade over the meat, cover and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Heat grill to medium-high and grill for 3-4 minutes a side or until the meat is cooked through.
