Ingredients
- 3 pounds beef short ribs
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 1 cup onions, sliced
- 1 - garlic clove, minced
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 - bay leaf
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 - green pepper, in rings

How To Make short ribs

Step 1Wipe meat with a damp cloth.

Step 2Trim off excess fat.

Step 3Combine flour, salt and black pepper.

Step 4Dredge meat in mixture to coat completely.

Step 5Heat shortening in large skillet.

Step 6Brown ribs on all sides.

Step 7Remove to a casserole with cover.

Step 8Saute onions and garlic in skillet until golden.

Step 9Spoon over ribs.

Step 10Combine water, bay leaf, brown sugar, vinegar and soy sauce.

Step 11Pour over ribs, cover, and bake at 350 for 1 3/4 hours.

Step 12Add green pepper rings.

Step 13Cook 15 to 20 minutes longer or until meat is tender.

Step 14Remove cooked ribs and vegetables to a serving platter.

Step 15Skim fat off drippings.

Step 16Thicken with a little flour if desired.

Step 17Spoon drippings over meat and vegetables.
