looked this up on the internet, then added my own spices to make it my own. I cook almost everything with garlic. Also the next time I make it I think I'll sprinkle 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese in between the meat and mashed potato layers. I think that would be real tasty too. Let me know what you think.

Ingredients For sheperds (cottage) pie

  • 1 stick
    celery stalk
  • 1
    small onion
  • 2 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 4 c
    potatoes
  • 1/2 c
    green beans
  • 1 pkg
    dry onion soup mix
  • 1 tsp
    thyme, dried
  • 1 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1 c
    beef broth
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/2 c
    milk

How To Make sheperds (cottage) pie

    Peel and cube potatoes and cook until tender, drain
  • 2
    add butter and milk to potatoes and mash, set aside
  • 3
    In a skillet. add olive oil, onion, garlic and celery, saute until tender

    add green beans cook until tender

    add ground beef and cook until no longer pink, drain any fat
  • 6
    add flour, thyme, cook while stirring to avoid a raw flour taste. Then add beef broth and cook until starts to thicken.

    While doing step 6. Preheat oven to 400

    Pour your beef mixture into glass 9X13 pan or casserole dish, then top with mashed potatoes, spreading out to edges to seal.

    Bake at 400 for 30-45 mins or until hot and bubbly.
