Easy to prepare, and oh-so yummy! It looks like a lot of ingredients, but is definitely better than packaged "chili mixes"!

ground round or ground sirloin
1 medium
white onion, chopped
3 can(s)
dark red kidney beans
1 can(s)
stewed tomatoes (28 oz or 1 quart jar home-canned stewed tomatoes)
3 can(s)
tomato sauce (15 oz each)
8 oz
fresh button mushrooms, sliced
1/4 c
chopped jalapeno peppers
1 1/2 Tbsp
1 1/2 Tbsp
chipotle chili powder
1 tsp
garlic powder
1 tsp
1 tsp
1/2 tsp
1 Tbsp
brown sugar
1 tsp
celery seed
salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make Spicy Chili


  • 1In dutch oven, brown meat with onions. Drain well and return to pan.
  • 2Add tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, kidney beans, mushrooms, jalapenos, and brown sugar/spices.
  • 3Bring to full boil, and reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 2 hours to allow flavors to meld, stirring occasionally. NOTE- Cumin, chili powder, and jalapeno amounts can be adjusted to suit your personal taste.
