Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds round steak
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 - finely chopped onion
  • 2 - carrots, peeled and grated
  • 2 - stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 1 can tomatoes, 16 ounces
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

How To Make savory swiss steak

  • Step 1
    Cut steak into 6 serving-size portions.
  • Step 2
    Coat with a mixture of flour, mustard, salt and pepper.
  • Step 3
    Using a large frying pan, brown meat in half the butter and oil.
  • Step 4
    Transfer to crockpot.
  • Step 5
    Heat remaining butter and oil in frying pan.
  • Step 6
    Saute onions, carrots and celery until glazed.
  • Step 7
    Add tomatoes, worcestershire and brown sugar.
  • Step 8
    Heat, scraping up drippings.
  • Step 9
    Pour over meat.
  • Step 10
    Cover.
  • Step 11
    Cook on low, 6 to 8 hours, or until tender.
  • Step 12
    Serve meat with sauce spooned over.
  • Step 13
    Sprinkle with parsley.
