I can't remember exactly where I got this recipe because I've had it for 40 or so years. I think that it came from a Campbell's Soup cookbook.

prep time 10 Min
cook time 20 Min
method Stove Top
yield 5-6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 can french onion soup, divided
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs (plain)
  • 1 - egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • dash black pepper
  • 1/4 cup catsup
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

How To Make salisbury steak

  • Step 1
Mix remaining ingredients with remaining soup. Pour over patties in pan and cook on low heat about 20 minutes or until meat is cooked through.
  • Step 2
Thoroughly mix 1/3 cup soup with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper; shape into 6 oval patties. Brown and drain.
  • Step 3
Serve with cooked noodles or rice.
  • Step 4
MY NOTE: I am not fond of the gravy that is made with this, so I generally will substitute it with a brown gravy mix and the remainder of the soup (as shown in photo).
