I found this recipe when I was first married. The only change I have made over the years was to replace the ground ginger with fresh, which I think improved the flavor tremendously.

Ingredients
- 2 pounds round steak, cubed
- 1 inch - piece ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 - envelope brown gravy mix
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 cups water
- 2 - bay leaves
- 1/3 cup white vinegar
- 1 large onion sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
How To Make round steak sauerbraten

Step 1Saute meat in oil. Dissolve gravy mix in water and add remaining ingredients. Pour over meat and simmer slowly for 1 1/2 hours. I usually do this in the oven.

Step 2Serve with hot buttered noodles.
