This is a simple recipe that my step-son just loves. Our family are big rice fans. However, with steak and gravy it is a must to have yellow rice with it instead of white. It just seems to add something special with this dish!

prep time 10 Min

method Stove Top
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 package round steak
  • 3-6 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup flour (keep out 2 tbs for gravy)
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1 package yellow rice

How To Make round steak and gravy with yellow rice

  • Step 1
Wash round steak, use a large knife or something to beat the meat do this on both sides. Trim off fat, cut in medium pieces, salt and pepper both sides. Flour, place in hot oil in a dutch oven or pan. Brown, add the onion and let it saute for a minute, sprinkle flour to make gravy in the same pan (you may need to get rid of some oil because you do not want too much in it to make your gravy). It is ok to leave the meat in the pan but you can take it out and then place it back in if you want to. I leave everything in there and make the gravy with the meat. Pour some water in with the above ingredients and cook on low. Add salt and pepper. If the meat is not cooked completely before you make the gravy it is ok because it will continue to cook. I cook this for a long time because the longer it cooks the better it is and the meat is so tender that you can cut it with a fork.
  • Step 2
In another saucepan follow the directions on the package for the yellow rice. Serve the gravy with the rice.
