I was thinking of making a meatloaf but I had to use up my cabbage so I made this instead. This can be easily done on the stovetop too.

Slow Cooker Crock Pot


  • 1 lb
  • 1/2 lb
    bulk italian sausage
  • 1
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 tsp
    kosher salt
  • 2
    bay leaves
  • 4
    white pototoes
  • 1 small
  • 4-6
  • 1 can(s)
    beef broth
  • 1 c

How to Make Rhineland Casserole(in the Crockpot)


  1. Brown hamburger and sausage together, place in crockpot. (Remove some of the grease if too much)
  2. Cut onion into fairly large slices and place on the meat.
  3. Add spices. Pour broth over all. Add water.
  4. Cut potatoes into thick slices and place over onions.
  5. Cook on High for 2 hours. Or until potatoes are done.
  6. Add pickles(cut in half or thirds) and cabbage(cut in wedges)
  7. Cook til cabbage is to your liking. 20 mins to 45mins.
