I was thinking of making a meatloaf but I had to use up my cabbage so I made this instead. This can be easily done on the stovetop too.

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

1 lb
hamburger
1/2 lb
bulk italian sausage
1
onion
1 tsp
garlic powder
1 tsp
black pepper
1 tsp
kosher salt
2
bay leaves
4
white pototoes
1 small
cabbage
4-6
pickles
1 can(s)
beef broth
1 c
water

How to Make Rhineland Casserole(in the Crockpot)

Step-by-Step

  • 1Brown hamburger and sausage together, place in crockpot. (Remove some of the grease if too much)
  • 2Cut onion into fairly large slices and place on the meat.
  • 3Add spices. Pour broth over all. Add water.
  • 4Cut potatoes into thick slices and place over onions.
  • 5Cook on High for 2 hours. Or until potatoes are done.
  • 6Add pickles(cut in half or thirds) and cabbage(cut in wedges)
  • 7Cook til cabbage is to your liking. 20 mins to 45mins.
