rhineland casserole(in the crockpot)

I was thinking of making a meatloaf but I had to use up my cabbage so I made this instead. This can be easily done on the stovetop too.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1/2 pound bulk italian sausage
  • 1 - onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 - bay leaves
  • 4 - white pototoes
  • 1 small cabbage
  • 4-6 - pickles
  • 1 can beef broth
  • 1 cup water

How To Make rhineland casserole(in the crockpot)

  • Step 1
    Brown hamburger and sausage together, place in crockpot. (Remove some of the grease if too much)
  • Step 2
    Cut onion into fairly large slices and place on the meat.
  • Step 3
    Add spices. Pour broth over all. Add water.
  • Step 4
    Cut potatoes into thick slices and place over onions.
  • Step 5
    Cook on High for 2 hours. Or until potatoes are done.
  • Step 6
    Add pickles(cut in half or thirds) and cabbage(cut in wedges)
  • Step 7
    Cook til cabbage is to your liking. 20 mins to 45mins.
