I found this recipe in a "Mom's Best Meals" Taste of Home collection. It was Darlis Wilfer's mom's recipe from Phelps, Wisconsin. It's good with mashed potatoes and a vegetable.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup uncooked long grain rice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 8-oz cans tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce

How To Make porcupine meatballs

  • Step 1
    In a bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Crumble the beef over the top and mix well.
  • Step 2
    Shape into 1-1/2 inch balls.
  • Step 3
    In a large skillet, cook the meat in oil over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain.
  • Step 4
    Combine tomato sauce, water, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce; pour over meatballs. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for one hour.
