I don't know if this is the way they do it in Philly, but this is how I do it.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Yum! With slices of steak, gooey cheese, caramelized onions and a hint of heat, this is my type of sandwich. Make sure to have a few napkins handy cause eating this may get a bit messy. Typically topped with Cheese Whiz or provolone, I like the addition of Swiss on this sandwich. It adds a nutty flavor. Make sure to melt the cheese ... it completes the sandwich. So good! Pan Fry


  • 2 1/2 lb
    beef top round steak, boneless
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1 tsp
    chili powder
  • 2 clove
    fresh garlic, minced; don't use jarred garlic
  • 1
    yellow onion
  • 6 slice
    Swiss cheese
  • 6
    hoagie rolls

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich


  1. Sliced beef thin, about 1/2 inch wide and 1/4 thick. This is easier to do if it's partially frozen.
  2. Sliced onion in half, then sliced the halves.
  3. Add seasonings and garlic to your beef and mix well
  4. Cook beef for 15 minutes or until brown, then add onions.
  5. Don't over cook the onions, cook another 5 minutes.
  6. Add your meat to the bun, top with cheese. You may want to microwave for about 30-45 seconds to melt the cheese. Enjoy!!
