Growing up we had venison as a substitute for beef. This dish is delicious and a favorite 50 plus years later.

Serve it over mashed potatoes or rice and you have a complete meal.

Make it in your crock pot or in the oven, you choose.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb
    raw stew meat (venison, beef, bison)
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 2
    celery stalks, chopped
  • 1
    onion, chopped
  • 1-2 c
    chopped carrots
  • 1 1/2 c
    tomato sauce
  • 3 Tbsp
    quick cooking tapioca
  • 1 c
    water

How to Make Paul Horning Stew

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix in cooking pot, cover and bake at 250 degrees for 4 hours.

    If using a crock pot use half of the water.
