oz's dirty rice

I love Dirty Rice.. never had made it til i moved to South Carolina. my first time making it i wanted to make cornbread with it... I had made the Rice then after I did that i made the cornbread mix and put it in the oven ....25 minutes later ..the cornbread was not even warm ..lol. my oven went out..so i took the cornbread mixture out of the oven ..turned on my griddles and made hoe cakes(corn bread pancakes) that worked better then i thought it would. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we all do.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 1/2 - yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1 1/2 - green bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1 1/2 - red bell pepper (chopped)
  • 2 packages brown gravy mix
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked brown rice

How To Make oz's dirty rice

  • Step 1
    Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and stir in the ground beef, onion, green and red peppers, salt, seasoned salt, and pepper. Cook and stir until the beef is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink. Drain and discard any excess grease.
  • Step 2
    Stir in brown gravy pkgs, the water and rice. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender, and the liquid has been absorbed, 20 to 25 minutes.
