operation kitchen tamale pie
found this recipe going thru my grandmas old recipe books this was in her Officers Wives Club Recipe book back in 1958 with my grandma's name on it.I remember her making this atleast one time a month in my childhood days. I love when i can find alittle piece of the past to bring back the days of times gone by .

Ingredients
- CORNMEAL MIXTURE
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold water
- MEAT MIXTURE
- 1 tablespoon shortening
- 1/3 cup green pepper ,chopped
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1/2 cup black olives, chopped
- 1/2 cup green stuffed olives, chopped
- 2 cups canned diced tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- TOPPING
- 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
How To Make operation kitchen tamale pie

Step 1Mix together corn meal,salt,cold water. Pour into boiling water, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened. Cover and continue cooking over low heat 10 minutes.

Step 2Melt shortening in skillet, add green pepper, beef and onion. Cook until meat browns. Blend in flour,add olives, tomatoes, chili powder, salt, garlic salt.

Step 3Line bottom and sides of greased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish with cooked cornmeal.Fill with meat and tomatoe mixture. Sprinkle top with grated cheese. Bake for 30 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
