old school beef stroganoff

I've been using this beef stroganoff recipe since high school. So, ummm, yeah, a looooong time. In the south we serve it over rice, elsewhere egg noodles are common. Either way, it's delicious.

Ingredients For old school beef stroganoff

  • 2 lb
    london broil
  • 1/2 c
    flour
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 Tbsp
    oil
  • 1 c
    chopped onion
  • 4 oz
    can mushrooms
  • 1 c
    tomato juice
  • 1 c
    sour cream
  • cooked rice

How To Make old school beef stroganoff

    Cut meat into 1 inch cubes.

    Drain mushrooms into measuring cup and add enough water to make 2 cups.

    Heat oil in large skillet.
  • 4
    Salt and pepper meat and dredge in flour.
  • 5
    Brown in oil in batches.
  • 6
    Add onion and saute until translucent. Add all meat back to pan.

    Add water mixture and tomato juice to pan. Cover and simmer until tender, about 1.5 hours.

    Stir in mushrooms and sour cream and heat through.

    Serve over rice. Rice is a southern tradition, you can substitute egg noodles.
