This is an old recipe that Mom had, she would make 2 pans of it. We would eat one and she would freeze the other after cooking and that would be a quickie meal when need be!

  • 1 1/2 c
    sliced onions
  • 1/3 c
    bacon drippings
  • 1 1/2 lb
    round steak, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1/3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    fresh ground black pepper
  • 3 1/4 c
    boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 c
    raw potatoes cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 box
    frozen pie crust

How to Make Old New England Beefsteak Pie


  1. Remove pie crust from freezer and allow it to come to room temperature
  2. Fry onions slowly in hot bacon drippings until soft.
  3. Remove and save.
  4. Roll meat in mixture of flour and seasoning and brown in bacon drippings.
  5. Add boiling water and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Sprinkle in any remaining flour.
  7. Cover, simmer until meat is tender (about 1 hour).
  8. Add potatoes, cook 10 minutes longer.
  9. Pour meat into a well-greased oblong ( 13 x 9 ) baking pan.
  10. Place onions on top.
  11. Cover completely with the pie crust
  12. Bake in a hot oven (450 F.) for 30 minutes

    6-8 servings.
