old new england beefsteak pie

This is an old recipe that Mom had, she would make 2 pans of it. We would eat one and she would freeze the other after cooking and that would be a quickie meal when need be!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sliced onions
  • 1/3 cup bacon drippings
  • 1 1/2 pounds round steak, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 3 1/4 cups boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup raw potatoes cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 box frozen pie crust

How To Make old new england beefsteak pie

  • Step 1
    Remove pie crust from freezer and allow it to come to room temperature
  • Step 2
    Fry onions slowly in hot bacon drippings until soft.
  • Step 3
    Remove and save.
  • Step 4
    Roll meat in mixture of flour and seasoning and brown in bacon drippings.
  • Step 5
    Add boiling water and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Step 6
    Sprinkle in any remaining flour.
  • Step 7
    Cover, simmer until meat is tender (about 1 hour).
  • Step 8
    Add potatoes, cook 10 minutes longer.
  • Step 9
    Pour meat into a well-greased oblong ( 13 x 9 ) baking pan.
  • Step 10
    Place onions on top.
  • Step 11
    Cover completely with the pie crust
  • Step 12
    Bake in a hot oven (450 F.) for 30 minutes 6-8 servings.
