This was my mom's recipe. I always wondered how she made the meatloaf so moist and flavorful. I think its the mixture of the beef suet, water and eggs. Using real bread crumbs instead also adds a different texture. Awesome

Ingredients For old fashioned meatloaf

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1/2 lb
    ground sausage
  • 2 Tbsp
    prepared beef suet
  • 4 slice
    bread ground in food processor
  • 2 lg
    eggs beaten
  • 1 md
    onion diced
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    ground sage
  • 1 Tbsp
    beef bouillon
  • 1/4 c
    hot water
  • 4
    strips of bacon
  • 1/2 jar
    chili sauce

How To Make old fashioned meatloaf

    To prepare beef suet. Melt the suet on stove top and pour through a fine mesh strainer. Let sit at room temp to solidify.

    Preheat oven 350 degrees Mix all ingredients together except for bacon and chili sauce. Place in a baking pan.

    Top with slices of bacon. Bake for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and top with chili sauce and bake another 15 to 20 minutes until meat is done.
