Perfect Comfort Food!!! The Ras el Hanout is a must for this dish, and can usually be found in any middle eastern market. I love to add a small amount of Harissa to this dish which gives it a nice amount of heat, with the savory and hint of sweet from the spices. You can serve with rice if you wish, but the authentic way is to grab a chunk of bread and scoop it with your fingers, have fun, enjoy!!

Ingredients

  • 1 large bag of frozen peas
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1/2-1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 - onion, chopped
  • 1 pound beef or lamb, cut into small cubes/chunks
  • 2 - potatoes cut into small chunks
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (approx)
  • 1 tablespoon ras el hanout spice mix (approx)
  • 2 liters water
  • - salt & pepper to taste
  • - harissa (hot sauce) optional, to taste

How To Make north african peas & meat

  • Step 1
    Brown meat in oil, add in salt & pepper, and onions. Add garlic at the end. stir in tomato paste, stir it in for a minute or so, then add the other spices & potato.
  • Step 2
    put 1 1/2 liters of water in, cover and cook on med/high heat until potatoes are almost cooked. Add in frozen peas, and about 1/2 a liter of water bring back to a boil for about 10 minutes or so (until it gets thick again).
  • Step 3
    Serve with boiled egg (optional) and bread
