In NC this summer, I found this recipe in a magazine, and since I love Sloppy Joes of basically all types, kept this. It is, however, adjusted to my tastes. :)

cook time
method Stove Top
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground chuck
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (use a sweet one) i use 2 large vidallia onions
  • 1 medium green pepper, chopped (i prefer orange, yellow or red pepper in this)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (i use a spoon of minced garlic from the fridge!)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • hot sauce to taste (i omit)

How To Make nc sloppy joes, my way

  • Step 1
Cook onion, ground beef and pepper, over med-high heat, stirring to break up, until beef is cooked through. Drain well then return to pan.
  • Step 2
Reduce heat to med. Stir in all but hot sauce. Reduce heat and simmer 30 min. Add hot sauce to taste and serve.
