Ingredients

  • 1 lb
    hamburger
  • 1 small
    onion
  • 4 c
    pinto beans
  • 2 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1 c
    tomato paste or sauce
  • ·
    hot peppers to taste
  • ·
    salt and pepper

How to Make Navajo Tacos

Step-by-Step

  1. Fry hamburger and onion together then add the rest...this will be your main topping...
  2. Fry Bread:
    41/2 cups flour
    31/2 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp.salt
    2 tsp.liquid oleo
    enough liquid so mixture is soft but not runny.
  3. Mix by hand to a soft dough.Let rise 1 HR.Then deep fry in oleo on both sides. Make the size of a large pancake.
    cut up lettuce and tomatoes in one bowl.
    Grate cheese in another bowl.
    Each person fixes his own taco.put fry bread on plate,then meat mixture,next the cheese and then the salad.Add hot sauce to taste.
