Ingredients

  • 4 - lean beef steaks
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 small onion
  • 180 grams sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley

How To Make mushroom steak

  • Step 1
    Heat a heavy based pan on high.
  • Step 2
    Brush oil onto both sides of steak.
  • Step 3
    To seal, cook steak 2-3 minutes each side.
  • Step 4
    Turn when juices appear on uncooked side note: Steak thickness determines cooking time.
  • Step 5
    As a gudie: Rare remove after sealing; reduce heat for medium and cook and extra 2-3 minutes each side; Well done, 4-6 minutes each side.
  • Step 6
    Test steak by pressing with tongs.
  • Step 7
    Rare feels string.
  • Step 8
    Medium has some resistance.
  • Step 9
    Well done feels quite firm.
  • Step 10
    Remove from heat, rest while making sauce.
  • Step 11
    Add onion and mushrooms to any pan juices.
  • Step 12
    Cook 1 minute.
  • Step 13
    Add worcestershire sauce and stock.
  • Step 14
    Bring to boil, stirring constantly until slightly thickened.
  • Step 15
    Add parsley and any juices from rested steak.
  • Step 16
    Serve with steamed vegetables and mash potatoes.
