Ingredients

  • FOR THE MEAT

  • 1 lb
    flank steak
  • 3 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp
    hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 c
    corn starch
  • FOR THE SAUCE

  • 1 tsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 2 Tbsp
    garlic
  • 1/2 c
    soy sauce
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 3/4 c
    dark brown sugar

How to Make Mongolian Beef

Step-by-Step

  1. Cut the flank steak against the grain into thick bite-size pieces
  2. mix the cornstarch, and hoisin sauce together and coat the steak. I found it easiest to put the steak into a plastic bag or a bowl so its easier to get everything coated! let that sit for about 20 minutes
  3. While you are letting the steak sit you want to get started on the sauce. Start by heating up the tsp of vegetable oil in a non stick pan or wok and add the ginger and garlic to it.
  4. before you can let it scorch add the soy sauce water and brown sugar. Bring it to a boil so that the brown sugar devolves then bring the temp down to low.
  5. In another pan heat up the other 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil and add the steak, let it simmer for about 10 minutes until it starts to get golden brown
  6. Add the sauce to the pan and cook for another 10-15 minutes and serve. We eat ours with green beans and rice! :)
