This chili is very thick and meaty with plenty of beans. I took a very simple chili recipe from my aunt and over the past 15 years I've made it my own. Alternate serving suggestion: top with shredded cheddar cheese and a bit of sour cream.

2 lb
lean ground beef (85-90%)
1 medium
sweet onion, diced
1 small
green pepper, diced
celery ribs, diced
2 can(s)
beans (16 oz. each, kidney/chili or cook's choice)
1 can(s)
crushed tomatoes (28oz.)
1 can(s)
diced tomatoes (14oz., undrained)
1 can(s)
beef broth (14oz.)
1/8 c
chili powder (add more to taste)s
2 Tbsp
worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp
dry mustard
1 Tbsp
basil, dried
2 tsp
ground cumin
2 tsp
steak sauce (i.e. a-1)
1 tsp
garlic powder
2 tsp
kosher salt (to taste)
1 tsp
coarsely ground pepper


1In a Dutch oven, brown ground beef with onion, green pepper, and celery. Season with 1 tsp Kosher salt and pepper to taste. Drain and return to pot.
2Add all remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered up to 1 hour until flavors are developed.
