Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean beef round steak, trimmed, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 - onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 - fresh hot jalapeno pepper, or canned, diced
  • 1 - garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds or 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground oregano

How To Make mexican-style chili beef

  • Step 1
    Spray a non-stick pan with cooking spray.
  • Step 2
    Brown the beef cubes over moderate heat.
  • Step 3
    Turn to brown evenly.
  • Step 4
    Drain and discard any melted fat.
  • Step 5
    Stir in vinegar and onion.
  • Step 6
    Cook and stir just until onion begins to brown.
  • Step 7
    Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Step 8
    Lower heat to simmering.
  • Step 9
    Cover and simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours until meat is very tender.
  • Step 10
    Uncover and simmer until sauce is thick.
  • Step 11
    Skim fat, if any.
  • Step 12
    If desired, serve with rice.
