Ingredients

ground beef
1 lb
ground pork
1 c
breadcrumbs
1 c
milk
1 medium
egg
1 tsp
salt
2 medium
onions, finely chopped
1/2 c
butter

ONION SAUCE:

3 c
onions, thinly sliced
1 c
butter
6 Tbsp
flour
1 tsp
salt
2 1/2 c
beef broth
1/2 c
milk

How to Make Meatballs in Onion Sauce

Step-by-Step

  • 1Soak bread crumbs in milk.
  • 2Mix all remaining meatball ingredients except butter. Form into walnut sized meatballs.
  • 3Brown them well in the butter.
  • 4Cover and simmer 1 hour.
  • 5Sauce:
    Saute onions in butter until caramelized. Blend in flour and salt.
  • 6Slowly add milk and beef broth. Stir until it thickens somewhat.
  • 7Pour over meatballs and serve.
