Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • ONION SAUCE:
  • 3 cups onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup butter
  • 6 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup milk

How To Make meatballs in onion sauce

  • Step 1
    Soak bread crumbs in milk.
  • Step 2
    Mix all remaining meatball ingredients except butter. Form into walnut sized meatballs.
  • Step 3
    Brown them well in the butter.
  • Step 4
    Cover and simmer 1 hour.
  • Step 5
    Sauce: Saute onions in butter until caramelized. Blend in flour and salt.
  • Step 6
    Slowly add milk and beef broth. Stir until it thickens somewhat.
  • Step 7
    Pour over meatballs and serve.
