This is a family favorite. My grandmother gave me a little paper back cookbook when I got married 24 years ago, called The Hamburger Cookbook by Ethel Mayer. I believe that is where the original recipe comes from. Be sure to use good quality cheeses in this recipe. I have it sliced in the deli rather than just buying Kraft singles. It really makes all the difference.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 2 - eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprkia
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup cubed american cheese + 3 slices
  • 3/4 cup cubed swiss cheese + 3 slices

How To Make meat loaf with cheese

  • Step 1
    Mix all the ingredients together except for the reserved cheese and paprika; Mix well until ingredients are well combined.
  • Step 2
    Press mixture into baking dish. Put into a 350 oven and bake for 50 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Remove from oven. Lay the pieces of cheese on top; sprinkle with paprika. Bake another 10 minutes or until cheese has just melted.
