This has been passed down through several generations and is one of our family's favorites. It makes the best sandwiches too.

  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 c
    dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 can(s)
    8-oz tomato sauce (the other half will be used in the sauce)
  • 1/2 c
    onion, chopped
  • 1 large
    egg, slightly beaten

  • 1 1/2 tsp
    each, salt and pepper
  • 1/2 can(s)
    8-oz tomato sauce
  • 3/4 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    prepared mustard
  • 2 Tbsp

How to Make Josephine's Meat Loaf


  1. For loaf, mix all ingredients well and form into a loaf. Place in greased loaf pan or 9x13 pan.
  2. For sauce, mix all ingredients and pour over loaf.
  3. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour.
