Ingredients

1 lb
mild breakfast sausage
1 lb
ground beef
1 medium
onion, chopped

garlic clove, minced
1 small
green bell pepper
1 small
red bell pepper
1 small
orange bell pepper
28 oz
can diced tomato, undrained (chili flavor)
16 oz
can dark red kidney beans
16 oz
can light red kidney beans
16 oz
can southwestern style black beans
1 Tbsp
chili powder
2 tsp
ground cumin
1/2 tsp
salt (or to taste)
1/2 tsp
cayenne pepper
1 c
water

How to Make Jenn's Basic Chili

Step-by-Step

  • 1Sauté sausage & ground beef, onion, peppers & garlic in a large, heavy saucepan until browned, stirring to crumble sausage; drain excess grease.
  • 2Combine sausage mixture with remaining ingredients in a large stockpot.
  • 3Cover & simmer 1-1 ½ hours.
  • 4This can also be done in a crockpot on low for several hours (the longer it cooks the more time the spices have to stew!)
