Ingredients
- 1 pound mild breakfast sausage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 - garlic clove, minced
- 1 small green bell pepper
- 1 small red bell pepper
- 1 small orange bell pepper
- 28 ounces can diced tomato, undrained (chili flavor)
- 16 ounces can dark red kidney beans
- 16 ounces can light red kidney beans
- 16 ounces can southwestern style black beans
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 cup water
How To Make jenn's basic chili

Step 1Sauté sausage & ground beef, onion, peppers & garlic in a large, heavy saucepan until browned, stirring to crumble sausage; drain excess grease.

Step 2Combine sausage mixture with remaining ingredients in a large stockpot.

Step 3Cover & simmer 1-1 ½ hours.

Step 4This can also be done in a crockpot on low for several hours (the longer it cooks the more time the spices have to stew!)
