Ingredients

1 lbmild breakfast sausage

1 lbground beef
-
1 mediumonion, chopped

1garlic clove, minced

1 smallgreen bell pepper

1 smallred bell pepper
-
1 smallorange bell pepper
-
28 ozcan diced tomato, undrained (chili flavor)

16 ozcan dark red kidney beans

16 ozcan light red kidney beans

16 ozcan southwestern style black beans

1 Tbspchili powder
-
2 tspground cumin
-
1/2 tspsalt (or to taste)
-
1/2 tspcayenne pepper
-
1 cwater
How to Make Jenn's Basic Chili
- Sauté sausage & ground beef, onion, peppers & garlic in a large, heavy saucepan until browned, stirring to crumble sausage; drain excess grease.
- Combine sausage mixture with remaining ingredients in a large stockpot.
- Cover & simmer 1-1 ½ hours.
- This can also be done in a crockpot on low for several hours (the longer it cooks the more time the spices have to stew!)
