italian roast beef sammie w/peppers & sour cream dressing

This is the latest of my entries for the Sandwiches, Sammiches & Sammies Challenge. Ingredients given were sour cream and banana peppers! It worked out well, I actually used a separate recipe for the sauce, then built the sammie around that. Some leftover sauce, using it on another sammie! Hope you'll take a look & make this...not difficult, but does take a little time...We think it was worth the wait! Even husband loved it...and he doesn't like mushrooms...lol

Ingredients

  • ************ SOUR CREAM DRESSING ************
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped, fried crisp & drained
  • - bacon drippings
  • 3 tablespoons finely minced onion
  • 1/2 pound mushrooms, stems removed, sliced thin
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1-1/2 cup dairy sour cream
  • ************ SANDWICH INGREDIENTS ************
  • 3 - banana peppers, cut in thin rings, seeded
  • 8 slices deli roast beef
  • 2 slices provolone or white american cheese
  • 4 slices tomato, thin sliced
  • 4 slices leaf lettuce
  • 4 slices italian bread, sliced 1" thick

How To Make italian roast beef sammie w/peppers & sour cream dressing

  • Step 1
    DRESSING PREP: Fry bacon until crisp, remove & drain. Meanwhile, cut both top and bottom off each pepper and slice into thin rings, removing seeds as you go.
  • Step 2
    Place pepper rings in drippings, cook on med heat til softened; remove from pan & drain.
  • Step 3
    In remaining drippings, add sliced mushrooms & onions, stir to mix well & cook over medium heat til softened.
  • Step 4
    Stir in worcestershire; stir in sour cream, mixing well, til heated through. Place in bowl and chill before putting on the sandwich.
  • Step 5
    Cut bread into 1" slices and place on grill to slightly toast one side. On untoasted side of bread, layer lettuce, sliced roast beef, & cheese.
  • Step 6
    Spread lightly with dressing, then add hot pepper rings and tomato; If desired, sprinkle with some salt or Mrs. Dash Original Seasoning blend. Top with other slice of bread, toasted side out.
  • Step 7
    Cut sandwich in half with sharp knife and enjoy!
