Found this stew recipe in Ma's recipe file box we found in NC in July 2019. It was folded up with a recipe for Spiced Fruit Compote (already in JAP).

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup salad oil
- 1 medium clove garlic
- 5 pounds beef stew chunks
- 3 6 oz cans tomato paste
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 8 oz boxes macaroni
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon parsley
- 1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
- 1/2 teaspoon caraway seed

Step 1In 8 qt DO in hot salad oil, cook garlic for 1 min, and discard. Add stew meat and onions until meat is lightly browned. Stir in tomato paste, water, paprika, salt, pepper and bay leaf and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and cover and simmer for 2 hours. About 30 min before done, prepare macaroni. Drain and toss gently with butter and parsley. To serve, sprinkle stew with lemon peel and caraway seed.
