I grew up with this dish and now serve it to my family. The original recipe calls for the bacon fat, but I do omit that as I usually don't have that around and still comes out just fine. Also good with salsa served over it for an extra kick.

Ingredients For hot tamale pie

  • 2 Tbsp
    bacon fat
  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1
    onion chopped
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1/2 can
    cream of corn
  • 1/2 c
    yellow corn meal
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1 can
    tomatoes (diced)

How To Make hot tamale pie

  • 1
    Brown onions, then ground beef, add corn, cornmeal, tomatoes and seasonings. Stir well over low heat.

    Mix eggs and milk together and then pour that over meat mixtures and mix together.

    Pour into a greased 13 x 9 baking dish. Bake covered at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
