I used to buy a brand name hamburger helper but then they quit making that particular one and it was the only one my family and I liked. So one day I decided to try to duplicate it and see what happens. This recipe is the result and we love it almost as much as the original.

prep time 5 Min
cook time 20 Min
method Stove Top
yield 4 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1/2 stalk carrot
  • 2 tablespoons frozen peas
  • 1 box kraft dinner (cheese flavoured pasta)

How To Make homemade hamburger helper

  • Step 1
Boil the water with the peas added (don't be tempted to add more peas as it's an over powering flavour & will ruin the end result). When the water comes to a boil add your package of Kraft Dinner and then follow the rest according to pkg directions.
  • Step 2
After you've got your water pot started you can start browning your hamburger in a larger pot. While it's browning grate 1/2 a carrot and then add it to the hamburger. When cooked drain well and place back into the pot, set aside.
  • Step 3
When your Kraft Dinner is prepared according to the package directions it's time to mix the two together. Let sit for about 3-5 minutes and stir a few times so the flavours can blend. It's ready to serve but if your family was like mine and had hungry men then you better make a double recipe and that required the use of a 5 qt. pot.
