hearty chili

I've perfected this recipe over the years and everyone seems to like it. The spice mixture is easy to tweak according to taste. A can of tomato sauce and a can of beef broth can be added to thin the chili a bit if you like a soupier chili.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium red onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 - serrano chiles
  • 1 large poblano chili
  • 1 can beer
  • 1 can tomato paste, 12 ounce
  • 1 can campbell's fiesta nacho cheese soup
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 can pinto beans
  • 1 jar salsa, 16 ounce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard, spicy brown
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin

How To Make hearty chili

  • Step 1
    Add onion, garlic, lemon juice, peppers, ginger, and cilantro to food processor and process until smooth.
  • Step 2
    Brown ground beef in large pot. Add onion mixture. Saute for 5 minutes, stirring as needed. Add beer and stir to combine.
  • Step 3
    Add tomato paste, soup, and salsa to pot, stirring after each addition. Add mustard and spices.
  • Step 4
    Add cans of beans, stirring to combine. Taste and adjust to make sure seasoning is correct. Simmer for 10 minutes more on low heat. Serve warm.
