I've perfected this recipe over the years and everyone seems to like it. The spice mixture is easy to tweak according to taste. A can of tomato sauce and a can of beef broth can be added to thin the chili a bit if you like a soupier chili.

    ground beef
  • 1 medium
    red onion, sliced
  • 4 clove
  • 1 Tbsp
    fresh cilantro
  • 1 Tbsp
    fresh ginger
  • 3 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 3
    serrano chiles
  • 1 large
    poblano chili
  • 1 can(s)
  • 1 can(s)
    tomato paste, 12 ounce
  • 1 can(s)
    campbell's fiesta nacho cheese soup
  • 1 can(s)
    black beans
  • 1 can(s)
    pinto beans
  • 1 jar(s)
    salsa, 16 ounce
  • 1 Tbsp
    mustard, spicy brown
  • 1 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 Tbsp
    garlic salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    ground cumin

How to Make Hearty Chili


  1. Add onion, garlic, lemon juice, peppers, ginger, and cilantro to food processor and process until smooth.
  2. Brown ground beef in large pot. Add onion mixture. Saute for 5 minutes, stirring as needed. Add beer and stir to combine.
  3. Add tomato paste, soup, and salsa to pot, stirring after each addition. Add mustard and spices.
  4. Add cans of beans, stirring to combine. Taste and adjust to make sure seasoning is correct. Simmer for 10 minutes more on low heat. Serve warm.
