My mother fixed this casserole at least once a month, we loved it and still do. It is not a very colorful dish, but if you would like to add a little color drain a small can of mandarin oranges and place a few on top just before serving.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup regular rice
  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup--undiluted
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup--undiluted
  • 1- 8 oz cans water chestnuts, drained
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce, dark
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1-14 oz can bean sprouts, drained
  • - crisp chinese noodles (chow mein noodles)

How To Make happy dish

  • Step 1
    Brown onions and celery in butter, remove from heat brown hamburger and raw rice together. Grease 2 qt casserole dish.
  • Step 2
    In large bowl combine soups, add soy sauce, water,pepper stir well, add browned onions and celery, meat and rice, stir well, add sliced water chestnuts, stir in bean sprouts. Pour into prepared casserole dish
  • Step 3
    Bake at 350 covered for 30 minutes then uncover and bake for 30 more minutes uncovered. serve over warm crisp noodles, pass the soy sauce.
