Ingredients
- 1 pound ground chuck
- 20 ounces can tomatoes
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 small bay leaf
- 1 large garlic clove, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1.5 quarts water
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 cup potatoes, cubed
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 cup carrots, sliced
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup celery, diced
- 1/4 cup rice, uncooked
- 1 cup cabbage, shredded
- 1 - grated parmesan cheese

Step 1In a large kettle, cook beef with onion and garlic until slightly brown.

Step 2Add water, potatoes, carrots, celery, cabbage and tomatoes; bring mixture to a boil.

Step 3Add bay leaf, thyme, basil, salt and pepper; stir.

Step 4Sprinkle rice on top.

Step 5Reduce heat, cover and simmer one hour.

Step 6Remove bay leaf.

Step 7Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and serve.
