gypsies
(1 RATING)
This recipe is from my aunt who considered herself a horrible cook. If she's so bad, then why is this a family favorite, and a favorite of everyone who tries it?

Ingredients
- 1-1 1/2 pounds round steak or sirloin
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 can tomatoes, canned and chopped, with liquid
- 8 ounces sour cream
- 1 1/2 cups rice
- 3 cups water
How To Make gypsies
-
Step 1Season meat that has been cut in bite size cubes and roll in flour seasoned with salt and pepper to taste
-
Step 2Brown floured meat and onions in a little oil. When browned, add tomatoes, cayenne and nutmeg. May add salt and pepper to taste if you like. Simmer covered, slowly, stirring occasionally.
-
Step 3While meat is simmering, cook rice in salted water, butter may be added for flavoring. When meat is tender and sort of juicy, usually by the time the rice is done, add 8 oz carton of sour cream and heat through. Serve over hot rice.
