Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 - chicken bouillon cube
  • 1 can condensed chicken gumbo soup
  • 2 tablespoons green pepper, optional

How To Make ground beef gumbo

  • Step 1
    Thicken slightly with equal parts flour and butter.
  • Step 2
    Preheat skillet to 375 degrees.
  • Step 3
    Melt shortening and brown beef, add onion, saute lightly.
  • Step 4
    Reduce heat to 225 degrees, add bouillon cube dissolved in water, chicken soup, salt and pepper.
  • Step 5
    Cover and cook until desired consistency.
  • Step 6
    Serve hot on toasted buns or over rice.
