ground beef and potato casserole

I learned this recipe from my mother and her as well. I was told it was a poor man's lasagna in the German household. I have tried several variations of this, but this is my favorite. Try adding canned mushrooms with the onions or spice it up with tomato sauce covering the beef. For an extra-special kick you can top it with shredded cheese. Make sure you adjust your cooking temps to match your extra ingredients.

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 - potatoes, white, thinly sliced
- 2 - onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1/2 cup water
How To Make ground beef and potato casserole

Step 1Make small beef patties and set aside.

Step 2Peel potatoes and slice very thin.

Step 3Peel onions and slice very thin.

Step 4Melt butter in frying pan.

Step 5Place onions in butter and lightly cook, just until transparent.

Step 6Remove and place beef patties in butter.

Step 7Brown quickly.

Step 8Place the potatoes in bottom of casserole dish with beef patties and onions on top.

Step 9Add water.

Step 10Bake at 400 for 45 minutes.
