Ingredients
- 3 pounds stew beef, cubed
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 1.5 cups water
- 1 salt
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 pepper
- 2 pounds small white onions
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 pound mushrooms, sliced
- 6 ounces can tomato paste
- 3/4 pound jack cheese, grated
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
How To Make greek stew

Step 1In a heavy kettle, brown meat in butter.

Step 2Season lightly with salt and pepper.

Step 3Add chopped onion and saute until clear.

Step 4Mix in tomato paste, vinegar, garlic and half of the water.

Step 5Add bay leaf.

Step 6Cover and simmer 1 hour, adding additional water as needed.

Step 7Add white onions and mushrooms.

Step 8Cover and simmer 1 more hour or until meat and onions are tender.

Step 9Add cheese, cover and cook 5 minutes, or until cheese melts.
