We made this every Sunday for "Game Day". We always had a house full of family and friends so we needed a big hearty dish! This was the fan's favorite dish without a doubt and it is still a tradition 40 years later!
1Boil water and cook noodles until al dente. Drain and put noodles into ice water.
Drain well after cooled.
2Brown meat with onion until browned. Salt and pepper to taste. Drain.
3In a heavy bottom saucepan mix tomato paste and sauce well. Add 3 bay leaves. Bring to a boil over medium heat, reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes to 1 hour until the tomato is a dark red. Stir often.
4Mist a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray. Put tomato sauce in bottom of the pan, sprinkle with parmesean cheese, lay 3 noodles over sauce, then put sauce on top of noodles, sprinkle with parmesean, then meat mixture, then mozzerella, and muenster, repeat layers until everything is used up.
Bake covered with foil at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes, until bubbly. let set 15 minutes before cutting.
Freezes well. I often assemble this a day ahead and refrigerate then Remove from fridge 30 minutes before baking.
