This is one of my favorite suppers. I always double the kraut and tomato juice mixture because I feed 5 people and it goes farther.

Ingredients

  • 1 - head of cabbage- boil until hot and clear through.
  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1/4 pound ground sausage
  • - salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon uncooked instant rice
  • 1 - onion diced fine
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 - small can sauerkraut
  • 1/2 - can tomato juice (large size) can add more if you like .
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

How To Make galuskis (pigs in a blanket)

  • Step 1
    Mix the hamburger, sausage, salt, pepper, rice, onion and egg. Take out the heart of the cabbage. Take a small portion of meat mixture. Roll into shape of sausage and wrap in a cabbage leaf. Continue to wrap the meat mixture in leaves until all used.
  • Step 2
    In a large pan, mix sauerkraut, tomato juice and vinegar. Place the galuskis on top the sauerkraut mixture and simmer 2 hours.
