I found this recipes many years ago in a book given to me from my Cub Scouts. It's a family favorite and great to make on a busy day, the oven does all the hard work. It makes the house smell wonderful, I hope you'll enjoy it.

Ingredients

  • 3
    beef bouillon, cubes
  • 2 c
    boiling water
  • 2 lb
    beef, cut into 1- inch cubes
  • 4
    carrots,cut into 4- inch strips
  • 4 oz
    jar sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 2
    onions, chopped
  • 2 slice
    white bread, crumbled
  • 2 Tbsp
    quick-cooking tapioca
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 2
    potatoes, cut into1-inch cubes

How to Make French Beef Stew

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water. Place beef cubes, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and onions in a casserole dish.
  2. Sprinkle with crumbled bread and tapioca; season with salt and pepper. Pour bouillon over all.
  3. Cover dish tightly with foil. Bake in oven for 4 hours. Check several times to be certain liquid has not evaporated; add water if necessary.
