french beef stew

I found this recipes many years ago in a book given to me from my Cub Scouts. It's a family favorite and great to make on a busy day, the oven does all the hard work. It makes the house smell wonderful, I hope you'll enjoy it.

Ingredients

  • 3 - beef bouillon, cubes
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 pounds beef, cut into 1- inch cubes
  • 4 - carrots,cut into 4- inch strips
  • 4 ounces jar sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 2 - onions, chopped
  • 2 slices white bread, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons quick-cooking tapioca
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 - potatoes, cut into1-inch cubes

How To Make french beef stew

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water. Place beef cubes, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and onions in a casserole dish.
  • Step 2
    Sprinkle with crumbled bread and tapioca; season with salt and pepper. Pour bouillon over all.
  • Step 3
    Cover dish tightly with foil. Bake in oven for 4 hours. Check several times to be certain liquid has not evaporated; add water if necessary.
