Ingredients

  • 2 flat iron steaks
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large shallot
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 cups dry red wine

How To Make flat iron steak with red wine sauce

  • Step 1
    Season the steaks with salt and pepper and let them come to room temperature. Add oil to a skillet and once it's nice and hot, sear the steaks about 5 minutes per side. Depending on how thick the steaks are and how you like them cooked.
  • Step 2
    Remove the steaks to a carving board to rest.
  • Step 3
    Add the butter to the pan and once melted, add the shallot and garlic. Cook 3 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Add the tomato paste and cook for 3 minutes. Add the red wine.
  • Step 5
    Increase the heat, and let it reduce by half. Taste and adjust for salt and pepper.
  • Step 6
    Carve the steaks and serve with the sauce.
