Ingredients

  • 3 pounds beef short ribs
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 2 cups onion, sliced
  • 1.5 cups hot water
  • 8 tablespoons dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 - minced garlic cloves
  • 2 large bay leaves

How To Make english sweet and sour ribs

  • Step 1
    Short ribs should be meaty and cut in the English cut.
  • Step 2
    Trim excess fat from short ribs.
  • Step 3
    Combine flour, seasoned salt and pepper; dredge short ribs.
  • Step 4
    Brown ribs in oil on all sides in dutch oven.
  • Step 5
    Remove meat from pan.
  • Step 6
    Add onions and cook until golden brown.
  • Step 7
    Place ribs on top of onions.
  • Step 8
    Combine water, brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, garlic and bay leaves; pour over ribs.
  • Step 9
    Cover and bake in 350 oven for 2 1/2 hours.
  • Step 10
    Remove bay leaves before serving.
