About 10 years ago on Calling all Cooks on Food Network, I saw this recipe and had to make it. It is totally amazing!! Not your typical chili. So many levels of flavors. Sorry for no picture (we've started remodeling our house and I don't have a kitchen). This would be excellent on this cold cloudy day :-)

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 pounds sirloin steak, cut into 1
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 12 ounces chorizo sausage, casing removed, cut 1/2" cubes
- 1 large yellow onion, coarsely chopped
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic salt
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 2 cans beef broth (14.5 oz)
- 2 cans whole tomatoes (14.5 oz) drained
- 1 cup cilantro, chopped
- 1 - cinnamon stick
- 3 - bay leaves
- 2 - jalapenos, slit lengthwise 3 times each
- 1 tablespoon yellow cornmeal
- - salt & pepper to taste
- 1 package chedder cheese (optional)
- 1 package sour cream (optional)
How To Make el cid chili

Step 1Place oil in a large, heavy pot over medium heat. Brown the sirloin in batches. Remove to a bowl with slotted spoon. Add ground beef, chorizo and onions to the pot and brown. Crumble meat. Return sirloin to pot. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Step 2Before serving, discard cinnamon stick, bay leaves and jalapenos. Garnish with sour cream and shredded cheese, if desired.
